One of the best chefs in the world Gordon Ramsay once cried when the Michelin Guide takes back stars from his restaurant in newyork , calling the food "erratic". A dinner from a Michelin Star rated restaurant was one of my dreams to conquer. Have you heard of this rating before? Michelin stars are a rating system used by the Michelin Guide to rate the restaurant based on food quality.Gordon Ramsay told that losing the stars was like "losing the girl friend". You can imagine the value of this rating from the words of world's famous chef. The interesting thing is that the worlds best restaurant rating is done by a tire company! Yes, this prestigous rating is from Michelin Tyres. But this tyre company decides the fate of many restaurants now.The french tyre company publishes "Michelin Red Guide", the oldest European hotel and restaurant reference guide for the past decade. This guide awards up to 3 stars for selected restaurants.
Forbes and some others review a restaurant by looking at more than 900 criterias which include food, interior , location , parking,etc. What makes Michelin Rating different from others is, they reviews a restaurant entirely based on food qaulity. They concentrate on quality of food, consistency , value, personality of the chef for reviewing a restaurant. That means they never review a restaurant based on interior or table settings! Yah, some great foods are produced in the streets of some countries!!
What is the meaning of 3 stars?
One star : A good place to stop on your journey offering cuisine of consistently high standards.
Two stars : Restaurants with excellent cuisine, and skillfully and carefully crafted dishes
Three stars : Restaurants worth a long special journey for trying its exceptional cuisines, where the diners eat superbly. Those restaurants may have special dishes with secret ingredients.
For those restaurants whose menu have items priced below a maximum determined by local economic standards , Michelin awards a "big gourment".
